What is a CCNA Course ?

What is a CCNA Course ?

What is CCNA:-

CCNA is a popular certification in computer networking developed by Cisco Systems. Cisco created the CCNA to recognize basic competency in installation and support of medium-sized networks.

The core CCNA certification can be obtained by passing a single 90-minute written exam. The exam has no prerequisites, although Cisco and other companies offer various formal training courses to help students prepare. Topics covered on the CCNA exam include:-

Ø  LAN and WAN design (including the OSI model)

     Ø  IP addressing

Ø  routers and routing protocols (including OSPF, EIGRP and RIP)

Ø  VLAN (virtual LAN) and WLAN (wireless LAN)

Ø  network security and management (including ACLs)

Separate from the core certification, Cisco also provides separate exams and certs called CCNA Security, CCNA Voice and CCNA Wireless designed to recognize specialty in those respective areas of basic computer networking.

The CCNA remains valid for three years when re-certification is required. Cisco also offers more advanced certifications for networking professionals beyond CCNA, including the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) and CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert).

Who are Cisco?

Cisco manufacture network hardware; they are the largest manufacturer of routers (Cisco serve 90% of the Internet market), and are also big in switches, wireless LANs, network security and IP Telephony.

Cisco runs an extensive, internationally-recognized qualification scheme. There are Cisco qualifications in networking, security, UNIX, Java, IT Essentials, network cabling and other more specialized areas. The courses are taught by official Cisco-accredited "Cisco Networking Academies" - such as the School of Informatics. Instructors at these academies have studied Cisco's instructor courses as well as the qualification itself.

Cisco Networking Qualifications

Cisco network courses are becoming essential for anyone wanting to work in networking, and give a good grounding in general networking to anybody interested in any aspect of I.T.

There are three levels of Cisco qualification:

1  CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate

2  CCNP - Cisco Certified Network Professional

3  CCIE - Cisco Certified Internet Expert

In addition, there are specializations - taken after CCNA, in (for example) Network Security and Wireless LANs. At Westminster, we offer courses towards the CCNA qualification. Qualifications are portable, and you can continue your studies at any other Cisco Academy.

CCNA Course Structure

There are two flavors of CCNA course: Discovery, and Exploration. Each CCNA course is designed to be studied on four modules, over four semesters:

Exploration 1 - Network Fundamentals

Exploration 2 - Routing Protocols and Concepts

Exploration 3 - LAN Switching and Wireless

Exploration 4 - Accessing the WAN

  3. Is the CCNA Security the best business ever made? Yes, though that shouldn’t come as a surprise. CCNA Security took a good product and made it better through their policy upgrades.

  4. CCNA Wireless is probably the most future-proof of anything ever launched. As much as it pains me to use the word future-proof, if you are one of those people who likes to hold onto their device for a while. CCNA Wireless is simply best!
